Welcome to Dubai — one of the most exciting, luxurious, and adventure-packed destinations in the world. Whether you’re looking to explore the stunning skyscrapers of Downtown Dubai, unwind at the beach, or dive into the deep waters of the Persian Gulf, this city has it all. Dubai’s a safe, solo traveler-friendly destination with a blend of modernity and tradition.
Here’s your 5-day itinerary for the ultimate solo trip in Dubai, packed with must-do experiences, top places to stay, transportation tips, and insider hacks to make the most out of your time here.
Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Downtown Dubai
Where to Stay:
For easy access to Downtown Dubai, check into The Address Boulevard Hotel or Sofitel Downtown Dubai. Both offer stunning views of the Burj Khalifa and are centrally located, making it easy to explore the city on foot. They also come with delicious breakfast options — make sure to add that to your reservation!
Transportation Tip:
Dubai’s Metro is clean, safe, and a great way to get around. Use the Dubai Metro Red Line to connect with major attractions like the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and the Dubai Marina. For more convenience, use ride-hailing apps like Careem or Uber.
Morning: Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall
Start your day by visiting the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Be sure to book your At The Top ticket online in advance because slots fill up fast, especially for sunset views. The views from the observation decks (148th and 125th floors) are breathtaking and give you a full perspective of Dubai’s skyline. You can book your tickets via Viator for the best prices and availability.
Afterward, explore Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world. While you’re there, don’t miss the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo — a fantastic experience for any solo traveler.
Lunch:
Head to Social House in Dubai Mall for a casual meal with a view of the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain. The international menu offers something for everyone, from sushi to burgers.
Afternoon: Dubai Fountain Show
Stick around for the Dubai Fountain Show, a mesmerizing water, light, and music spectacle held every 30 minutes starting in the late afternoon. This free activity is a must-see.
Dinner:
For dinner, try Cé La Vi Dubai on the 54th floor of Address Sky View Hotel for stunning views of the Burj Khalifa lit up at night. Book in advance — this place is popular for both food and Instagram-worthy views.
Day 2: Dubai Marina and JBR Beach
Morning: Dubai Marina & Breakfast at The Walk
Start your morning with a stroll along Dubai Marina — home to some of the city’s most incredible skyscrapers and yachts. Grab breakfast at Eggspectation at The Walk, JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) for a hearty and delicious start to the day.
Pro Tip:
Pack sunscreen and a hat as the sun gets strong later in the day, especially if you plan to spend time at the beach.
Late Morning: Scuba Diving or Water Sports
If you’re a scuba diver, don’t miss out on Deep Dive Dubai, the world’s deepest dive pool. Book through Viator, and you’ll get access to one of the most surreal underwater experiences, perfect for both seasoned divers and beginners.
If you’d rather stay above the water, try jet skiing or paddleboarding at JBR Beach. Rentals are available right on the shore, and it’s a fun way to explore the coastline.
Lunch:
After your morning adventures, grab a bite at The Cheesecake Factory at The Beach, JBR. It’s got a great seaside view and a massive menu with something for everyone.
Afternoon: Relax at a Beach Club
For a laid-back afternoon, book a spot at Zero Gravity Beach Club. This trendy spot offers an infinity pool, beach access, and lively music, making it a great place to relax. Be sure to book your spot ahead of time, especially on weekends, as it can fill up quickly.
Dinner:
For dinner, head to Pier 7, a short walk from Dubai Marina, where you’ll find seven different dining options. Asia Asia is an excellent choice, serving up delicious pan-Asian dishes with a stunning view of the marina.
Day 3: Old Dubai, Culture, and Desert Adventure
Morning: Explore Old Dubai
After a luxurious start to your trip, it’s time to dive into Dubai’s rich history and culture. Take the Metro or a Careem to Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, where you can wander the narrow alleys of this preserved quarter. Visit the Dubai Museum at Al Fahidi Fort to learn about the city’s transformation from a small fishing village to the metropolis it is today.
Lunch:
Head to Al Bastakiya for a traditional Emirati meal at Al Fanar Restaurant, which serves up delicious local cuisine in a charming old-town setting.
Afternoon: Desert Safari Adventure
No trip to Dubai is complete without a desert safari. Book a Viator tour that includes dune bashing, camel rides, and an evening BBQ under the stars. This is one of Dubai’s most popular activities, so book at least a day in advance.
Pro Tip:
Dress comfortably and bring a jacket for the evening as it can get chilly in the desert after sundown.
Day 4: Atlantis, The Palm & Aquaventure
Morning: Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis, The Palm
Start your day with some excitement at Aquaventure Waterpark, located at Atlantis, The Palm. This massive waterpark offers thrilling rides, a lazy river, and even a chance to swim with dolphins. Book your tickets online early to avoid long queues.
Lunch:
After a morning of water fun, grab lunch at Wavehouse, located within Atlantis. It’s casual, fun, and perfect for a break between adventures.
Afternoon: Explore The Lost Chambers Aquarium
While at Atlantis, visit the Lost Chambers Aquarium, home to over 65,000 marine animals. It’s a great way to explore the underwater world without diving, and the aquarium’s design is stunning.
Avoid:
While you’re at Atlantis, skip Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen. Despite being a fan of his shows, I found this restaurant to be overpriced with underwhelming food. You can find better dining experiences elsewhere.
Evening:
Head to The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah for dinner. You’ll find a variety of restaurants with views of the Palm Fountain, the world’s largest fountain, which offers nightly shows. Zor Restaurant serves up delicious Middle Eastern fare and has fantastic views of the fountain.
Day 5: Souks, Culture, and Departure
Morning: Visit Dubai’s Souks
On your final day, take a journey into Dubai’s famous souks (markets). Visit the Gold Souk and Spice Souk in Deira, where you can shop for souvenirs, spices, and traditional goods. Take a traditional abra boat across Dubai Creek for just 1 AED to get a feel of the old city.
PRO TIP: Souk are markets where they will try to charge tourist a LOT more. Bargin with them and use common sense. Is a spice really worth $50 USD or $5? Be kind and not mean but they expect you to offer low and hold to lower prices. This guy tried to sell us $1,000 worth of spices.
Lunch:
Head to Arabian Tea House in Al Fahidi for lunch. This spot is perfect for solo travelers, offering a quiet atmosphere and a wide selection of traditional Middle Eastern dishes.
Afternoon: Dubai Frame
End your trip with a visit to the Dubai Frame, one of the city’s newer attractions. The frame offers panoramic views of both old and new Dubai, making it a fitting way to cap off your journey.
Safety Tips for Solo Travelers in Dubai:
- Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world, with low crime rates. You’ll feel comfortable walking around even late at night, but as with any city, stay aware of your surroundings.
- When visiting religious or traditional areas, dress conservatively. Women should avoid revealing clothing (cover your shoulders and knees), while men should wear modest outfits in these areas.
- Respect local customs: Public displays of affection, drinking in public, and inappropriate behavior can offend locals and get you in trouble. Stick to the designated areas for drinking and nightlife.
Transportation in Dubai:
- Dubai Metro: Efficient and connects most tourist hotspots.
- Careem & Uber: Reliable and easy-to-use ride-hailing apps.
- Taxis: Widely available but slightly more expensive than Metro or ride-hailing options.
